CM Bugti Chairs High-Level Meeting to Tackle 8,300-Nurse Shortfall in Balochistan

High-level meeting regarding the nursing sector chaired by Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

  • Severe shortage of nurses in Balochistan: Only 1,700 nurses available against a requirement of 10,000.
  • Decision made to establish nursing colleges in all divisions and major districts under Public-Private Partnership.
  • Decision in the meeting: 2,000 trained nurses will be prepared annually with the assistance of Khyber Medical University.
  • Agreement in the meeting: The province’s existing government nursing colleges will also remain functional as usual.
  • “The youth of Balochistan will be trained according to the modern requirements of nursing and healthcare,” says CM Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
  • “Government measures are underway, keeping in view the growing global demand for nursing and healthcare staff,” states CM Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
  • “By providing international-standard training to the youth of Balochistan, employment opportunities will be created for them abroad,” CM Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
  • “Dignified and secure employment paths are being opened for the youth of Balochistan in the nursing and healthcare sector,” CM Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
  • “Special attention is being given to training, technology, and facilities for the improvement of the health sector,” CM Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, along with officials from the Health Department and Khyber Medical University.

Director General Health Services Dr Amin Mandokhail visited Naseerabad Division to review preparations for the ongoing flood situation

During the visit, the DGHS inspected the warehouse where essential medicines will be stored and inquired about the services of MNCH, EPI, VBD, TB, and Nutrition programs. He emphasized the need for improvements and directed that quality health services be made available during both evening and night shifts. Stocks were also checked to ensure that districts have enough supplies, and any additional needs were identified so that timely support can be arranged.

The DGHS Dr Amin mandokhail asked about health services being provided through programs such as MNCH, EPI, VBD, TB, MCH, LHW, and Nutrition, with a focus on ensuring communities continue receiving care despite the challenges.

To strengthen health services on the ground, Mobile Health Units (MHUs) have already been mobilized to Naseerabad Division. The DGHS assured that three more MHUs will be deployed if required, so that families in flood-hit areas have continuous access to healthcare.

The Health Department reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the health and well-being of people during this difficult time.
